Ciència per a tothom 2026- (Science for Everyone 2026)

Once again, IdISBa will take part in the annual fair “Ciència per a tothom”, organised by the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB). The aim of this activity is to encourage scientific and technological vocations among young people, and it is therefore aimed at primary and secondary school students.

Dates: May 7, 8 and 9, 2026

Educational centres: May 7 and 8, from 8:30 am to 2:30 pm

General public:

May 8, from 4:30 pm to 7:30 pm

May 9, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm

Venue: University campus, Palma.

How to get there: Metro, EMT bus.

Target audience: Primary and secondary school students and the general public.

Activities:

The activities mainly consist of science and technology experiments adapted to different educational levels. University lecturers and students will carry out demonstrations and explanations throughout the fair.

IdISBa's activities

Thursday, May 7

BOOTH 19 (8:30 am–2:30 pm): Layers come to life: discover the magic of 3D (TERCIT)
How can we create 3D structures from 2D layers? We will explore additive manufacturing using three‑dimensional puzzles and a live demonstration with a 3D printer.

BOOTH 20 (8:30 am–2:30 pm): In search of emotions (EVISAP)
In this activity, participants become scientists of emotions: they observe the surroundings, identify emotions in real time and mark them on a map using a colour code. They then create a collective emotional map and analyse what happens in each area.
A short, participatory experience combining observation, science and emotional education.

Friday, May 8

MORNING

BOOTH 1 (8:30 am–2:30 pm): Nanosensors: discover how to see bacteria with the naked eye (Grupo Multidisciplinar de Sepsis)
Can you imagine seeing bacteria without a microscope? In this workshop you will discover how to do so using nanosensors that reveal the invisible in a simple and surprising way. A science outreach activity designed to spark curiosity and improve understanding of the microbial world.

BOOTH 2 (8:30 am–2:30 pm): Seeing the invisible: dilutions and preclinical imaging in action
We will learn how specific concentrations are obtained in the laboratory from a stock solution. We will also explore preclinical imaging techniques such as fluorescence and micro‑CT using simple experiments and accessible materials.

Classroom 2 (8:30 am–2:30 pm): IMPaCT Cohort: a project by everyone, for everyone
The IMPaCT Cohort will mark a turning point in knowledge about the health of the Spanish population. Over 20 years, its evolution will be monitored every 5 years. A brief explanation of the project will be given, followed by some physical tests with volunteers.

AFTERNOON

BOOTH 19 (4:30 pm–7:30 pm): Bacteria hunters (Resistencia antibiócia y patogena de las infecciones bacterianas)
Antibiotic resistance is one of the most serious health problems today. If antibiotics stop working, we could return to a “pre‑antibiotic era,” when a simple wound could be fatal. Through this activity, you will learn how antibiotics work, how resistance develops, what researchers do, and how you can help prevent it.

BOOTH 20 (4:30 pm–7:30 pm): Layers come to life: discover the magic of 3D (TERCIT)
Exploration of additive manufacturing with three‑dimensional puzzles and a 3D printer demonstration.

Saturday, May 9

BOOTH 19 (10:00 am–12:00 pm): Talking fats: what do cells hide? (Lípidos en patología humana)
We will experiment with density gradients and other visual tests to understand the role of fats within cells and what they can reveal about their state and function.

(12:00 pm–2:00 pm): Gently discovering DNA (Genómica de la Salud)
We will explore DNA through hands‑on experiments, including extraction, observation of pH changes and visual understanding of base complementarity in this essential molecule.

BOOTH 20 (10:00 am–12:00 pm): The power of good communication: suicide prevention (Grupo CurES)
How we communicate can save lives. Discover how to talk about suicide in a safe and preventive way, avoiding risks and promoting support resources based on scientific evidence.
